About the NoBad Weather Family
Hej hej! We’re Josh, Sam, and our three adventure-loving kids.
Welcome to NoBad Weather.
The name comes from a Scandinavian proverb we’ve loved for years:
“There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.”
But to us, it means something much bigger.
No Bad Weather is the belief that life isn’t meant to be lived waiting for perfect conditions.
Not perfect weather.
Not perfect timing.
Not someday.
We believe the best memories are made when you show up anyway. This is the Nobad way of life.
When you take the trip.
Start the project.
Learn the new skill.
Explore the trail.
Cast off the dock lines.
Build the life you’ve been talking about.
Our family didn’t always live this way.
Like many families, we found ourselves caught in a cycle of busy schedules, long workdays, extracurricular activities, and constantly planning for a future that always seemed just out of reach.
Along the way, we realized something important:
We weren’t looking for a different house.
We were looking for a different way to live.
So we started making changes.
We spent more time outside.
We simplified.
We prioritized experiences over things.
We started homeschooling.
And eventually, we made the biggest leap of all.
We sold nearly everything we owned, left suburban life behind, and moved aboard a sailboat named NOBAD Weather.
Today, our family calls a 47-foot catamaran home as we explore coastlines, learn new skills, make mistakes, solve problems, and discover what happens when a family chooses adventure over comfort.
But sailing is only one chapter of our story.
NoBad Weather was never created to be a sailing brand.
It’s a family philosophy.
A reminder that adventure can look different in every season of life.
Today that season happens to be on the water.
Tomorrow it might be in the mountains.
A cabin in the woods.
A snowy trail.
A new country.
Or simply exploring our own backyard.
The location may change.
The mission won’t.
What We Believe
Adventure Every Day
Adventure doesn’t require crossing oceans. It starts with curiosity and a willingness to try something new.
Family First
The greatest journeys aren’t measured in miles. They’re measured in the relationships built along the way.
Self-Reliance
Growth happens when you learn to solve problems, embrace challenges, and trust yourself to figure things out.
Serve Others
Life is better when we use our gifts, experiences, and resources to help those around us.
God First
Our faith guides our decisions, our family, and the way we navigate both calm seas and rough waters.
Why We Share Our Journey
We don’t have all the answers.
We’re not expert sailors.
We’re not trying to convince anyone to sell everything and buy a boat.
We’re simply documenting what happens when a family chooses a more intentional path.
If our story inspires your family to spend more time outside, take that trip you’ve been postponing, learn a new skill, or chase a dream that’s been sitting on the shelf, then we’re accomplishing exactly what we set out to do.
Because at the end of the day, No Bad Weather isn’t really about sailing.
It’s about living fully.
It’s about making memories.
It’s about embracing every season of life.
And most of all, it’s about one simple idea:
Don’t cancel plans. Make more. Become a Nobad Family.
