About

Hej hej and welcome to our neck of the woods! Nice to meet you!

We are the crew sailing SV NOBAD Weather. As a family of 5, we quit corporate America, SOLD EVERYTHING, and left life in city suburbs for a more extra ordinary life out at sea on a 47ft catamaran.

We hope you come ride the tsunamis (of life) and chase sunsets with us.

How did we get here?

About 5 years ago Captain Josh (Nobad Dad) started on a campaign for the family to move onto a sailboat someday. This was around the time we were seriously discussing and trying to figure out where we wanted to move for our ‘forever home’ and eventually retire. We came to the conclusion that neither of us were ready to commit to a forever home and a place to settle down. So…

By 2022, Sam (Nobad Mom) was fully convinced to this Sailboat Dream. For the next few years, we focused down and figured out how to make it happen.

Between then and now, we’ve done a few things to prepare:

  1. Family sailing lessons with Park City Sailing Club
  2. Learn to Sail trip on Lofoten, Norway
  3. Sailing Kids Camp with Park City Sailing Club
  4. Watched lots of YouTubers, like Sailing Zatara, Alluring Arctic, Sam Holmes Sailing, etc.
  5. Joined Blue Water Cruising
  6. Started homeschooling

In July of 2025, we flew to Ft. Lauderdale as a family to go boat shopping for the first time! And lucky us, we found our sailboat! She’s a little rough around the edges but the perfect vessel to take our family on many grand adventures.

We set sail at the end of 2025.

Our ultimate goal is to sail north to Norway and Sweden and do, as the locals say, ski and sail. Then we will know we have officially accomplished this grand adventure and determine what’s next.

In 2020, before all this sailing nonesense, we created family and marriage values. We wrote them out and hung them up. These are our north star and guide everything we do as family.

Family Values

  1. Adventure every day
  2. Serve our neighbors
  3. #1 fan (Ohana first)
  4. Self reliance
  5. God-First Family

Marriage Values

  1. Best Friends
  2. Yellowstone
  3. Adventure together
  4. Personal development
  5. God first marriage

The life we were living, the 9-5 ruled by extracurricular and homework, was not working for us. When the idea of sailing came into our life, these values fell into place and this felt 1000% the right move for our family to take.

We live by our motto: Ride the tsunami (‘ride the t’ for short). A motto Josh introduced to our family and is our way of saying this too shall pass. But we like it more, because hopefully your chasing a living life that brings about tsunamis that need to be weathered, instead of hiding or wasting the days away.

So here we are, a bunch of salty wannabe sailors taking on this adventure together as a family to become sailing journalists (or pirates, depending on who you ask). We hope you join our Nobad adventures with us. Ride the t.
