Wow, so much happened. But SV Nobad Weather is officially in the water and docked!
So much emotion – we did it. No more boatyard.
We were stressed ALL week and the moment we finished tying off the boat to the dock, I just started to cry. The next chapter begins…
Excerpt from the email we sent to our family and friends sent on Dec 21st…
“Hello Nobad Fam!
This week was HUGE. We pivoted in our plans and decided that it would be worth it to not have everything completely finished before we splash. So we focused on finishing everything necessary to make the boat safe in the water. All other updates can come after that. The boat yard was extremely hard on our family and it was just never ending. We agreed it would be better to just finish the necessities that require a boat haul out and then get to warmer weather, better beaches and clear waters to keep working on upgrades — and meet up with our buddy boat who was waiting for us in Ft. Pierce.
And we did splash! On the morning of Friday Dec 19th, our boat went back in the water. The level of stress that morning was unmatched. What if the engines don’t start. What if we start taking on water because we didn’t seal good enough. The plan was to be put in the water and then we would navigate over to the marina’s dock and spend one night getting situated and testing things. Josh and I were nervous wrecks about needing to move this boat in the water to the dock. We had never done it. Something that seems so trivial now but was mega scary a couple days ago. With the yacht club of million dollar boats lining the narrow channel we’d have to navigate with another catamaran prepping to haul out – it was stressful. We were on the phone with friends and talking to our boat neighbors, getting advice. The rally from our small boat community was amazing. And we freaking did it! All by ourselves, we got the boat where it needed to be with no issues. The moment we were securely docked, Josh and I felt a massive sigh of relief and I just started to cry. We did it. We are done with the boat yard. Tomorrow we set sail…FINALLY.
However, we didn’t get much sleep that night. We were on the phone with our buddy boat looking at the weather and sea state. It had slightly changed from earlier in the week and the seas were looking to be rougher than we liked. We stressed and slept very little. Super early Saturday morning we were huddled around our computers, once again reviewing 5 different models. We ultimately decided that this may be an uncomfortable motor sail, but it would be worth it to get to our buddy boat within a decent weather window. Safety in numbers, and all that. So we finished prepping the boat to set sail, and got the heck outta dodge at 7am… ”
