We finally started to make big headway on our projects only for the monsoons to roll in. Queue eye roll.
That didn’t stop us tho, we just pivoted. I was able to unpack a lot more things and it’s been huge in helping us feel more settled. I also got a ton of laundry done using the yacht club’s laundry room next door. Thank heavens that exists.
Josh had a huge win this week. The ceiling, aka the bane of our existence, is finally DONE. This has by far been the most challenging project, mentally and physically. But he did it! Once the rain stops, we can drill the line track and handrail back on to the roof. But this week I’ve actually been able to use my kitchen and Josh became dad of the year to Raegan because she finally got her room (since the ceiling was now done we could remove the items being stored in there). She was more excited about this than Christmas day. She was so cute and sweet about it.
Josh is finishing the floor in the salon as I’m typing. So tomorrow we can lay the new vinyl down and wrap up this big project as well….
For those wondering why we are doing these big updates and not in the Bahamas yet….when you buy a boat you have a survey done. The surveyor calls out everything about the boat, good and bad. If you want to insure the boat, which we do, the insurance company reviews the report from the surveyor and determines if they will insure us. When we purchased our boat, we could not get insurance on it due to its condition. Something that honestly caught us off guard. We thought it would be like home or car insurance. So we are not doing this for kicks and giggles. We are doing this for some quality of life, but primarily, so we can get our boat insured. We plan to call our surveyor this week to get his opinion on when we can stop and have done enough to launch. His report will solely be what the insurance underwriter uses.
Raegan’s leg has healed well and the kiddos have managed to stay out of trouble. They’ve also talked me into taking them to the beach at least 3 times this last week. I don’t mind tho, they absolutely love playing in the ocean and sand.
In addition to the windows, the other big project we plan to wrap up this week is bottom paint! This kinda signals the end of us needing to be in the boat yard. All sailboats have “bottom paint” which is essentially antifoul paint that goes on the hull to the waterline. This stuff prevents organisms from attaching and growing on the bottom of the boat. Something our boat desperately needs but Josh had to do a ton of repairs to the hulls before we could do this. He finished those updates this weekend and we just need to apply a different base paint layer first and then the boat yard will do the bottom paint. So fingers crossed we can get that scheduled this week.
As always, we are so grateful to all of you. Your love and support. Every day, we still can’t believe we are doing this.
