The First Episode…

It’s been a long time coming.

In this episode, we bring the kiddos up to speed on how we got to where we are…as sailboat owners prepping to sail the world as a family.

We review the last 4 years and the steps we took in order to prepare ourselves to seize the moment for when we were both ready and found the right boat for us.

Here’s our detailed timeline…for posterity’s sake.

1. BEFORE 2021
   • Josh starts watching sailing related youtube channels
2. 2021 Spring – Sam starts watching Sailing Zatara
3. 2021 December – Josh gets xtratuff boots, Captains Log, shark byte deck shoes for Christmas
4. 2022 May 31st – Sam agrees to pursue sailing dream with Josh
5. 2022 June 5th – record 1st “week 1” video of beginning this boat journey
   1. And then didn’t do it again. LOL. Go us. 
6. 2022 Summer – Family sailing lessons at Jordanelle – Park city sailing club
7. 2022 December – Josh gets Helly Hansen Sailing Jacket, sailing cookbook, and tide book for Christmas
8. 2023 Spring – Kiddos start watching, and really like, Sailing Zatara
9. 2023 July 9th – Josh and Sam watch BWC workshop with Zatara
10. 2023 July-Aug – SAILING IN NORWAY! Seil Norge
    1. Buy sailing gloves
    2. Buy xtratuff deck boots 
11. 2024 Summer – Kids Sailing camp – Park City Sailing Club
    1. Start looking into buying a small sail boat to sail on lakes in UT – don’t end up buying one 
12. 2024 Started going to Costco every 3 months and started meal planning 2 weeks at a time (go to grocery store every 2 weeks)
13. 2024 October – Josh and Sam attend Annapolis Boat show
14.  2024 November – joined BluewaterCruising.com (BWC)
15. 2025 January – Josh buys Sextant off of facebook marketplace, seller threw in some nav books too! 
16. 2025 January – Josh starts cooking homemade bread (bought bread maker) to get used to making our own.
17. 2025 March – finished BWC get set to sail.
18. 2025 April – Josh and Sam reckoning…finally define what our actual goals are and come out alive and more motivated than ever. Planning trip with BWC broker to tour boats this summer in Florida.
    1. Sam makes Josh sailing Engineering Box to help josh “solve the problem”  
19. 2025 April – start eating through our pantry and freezer to clear it out so we don’t waste food. Also started really enforcing eating leftovers throughout the week to train our kids. 
20. 2025 April – start process for setting up our homebase
21. 2025 May – started taking inventory of everything in our house by room
    1. Reorganized all kitchen spices
22. 2025 June – making good progress in eating all the food in our freezers to clean them up and then “restock” with the purpose of longterm land food storage tracking (and prep for the boat) 
23. 2025 June 5th – booked our trip to Ft. Lauderdale! Exactly two years after officialy deciding to pursue this dream!
24. 2025 June 9th – organized all the kitchen spices! And inventoried them.
    • Bought turkish towels to try out and see. These will be better than the bulky towels we have for showering/bathrooms. 
25. 2025 June – Ft. Lauderdale trip! Looked at 8 boats.

It may seem like this happened over night, and some days it feels like it, but it’s been 3.5 years in the making.
