Serve up the outdoors for Thanksgiving

Dear NoBads,

Thanksgiving is upon us in the USofA.

We love REI’s campaign #OptOutside to inspire the nation to get outside this holiday weekend.

We have some outdoorsy holiday weekend plans brewing in our house! What about you?

Here are 5 insanely simple, outdoor ideas you can easily schedule within your busy Thanksgiving holiday plans.

  1. Turkey Bowl – Let’s get the obvious one out of the way. This is already a part of many people’s holiday plans. Make it your own and shove your family out the door! Grab whatever ball you can find. Split up into two teams. Make some basic rules to prevent family rifts, and go ham out there.
  2. Trail blazing – Find a local city trail near your house and walk it out with your loved ones. Simple as that. We’ve discovered so many trails near our home that we had no idea existed. These can be dirt or paved. Just take a chance on creating this new memory and discovering something new near your home.
  3. Serve some pie, outside – Never skip dessert!…Just eat it outside instead. Enjoy the fall colors and cooler temps. It’s good for you! Pair it with hot coco for a cozy outdoor experience. If you have a fire pit, light it up!
  4. Pie Toss – Wanna take your pie game next level? Make some whipped creams pies and turn it into a fun, messy, yummy outdoor game! Set up a target or, literally, have a pie fight. Maybe swap your bean bags for pies in a friendly game of cornhole???
  5. Serve together – Have a neighbor or friend who needs some help with leaves? Know a family near you who needs a little extra cheer? Think about it, I’m sure someone will come to mind. Organize a service activity with your loved ones that involves being outside. There’s plenty of opportunity around you to serve others.

If you don’t think you can squeeze one of these in, then you aren’t even trying. Don’t cancel plans, make more!

6. BONUS IDEA: still haven’t made that leaf pile yet??? Now’s your chance.
